New patch: Added an option to hide the handles, and no they won't be replaced by a separator.
Patch will (most likely) be committed when 4.4 has been released.

replace the rectangles with separators and add a option to show it or not to the options of xfce-taskbar-plugin.

PD: add more space between the xfce-taskbar-plugin to another plugin like 1px or more

Send it to myself and Jasper ;D? There are usability reasons for those handles (move/remove/etc taskbar when it's filled for example) and that's the reason why they're there.

anyone can remove these "handles"... look very bad in the taskbar... are not needed! for nothing!

That's a distro question i think, since most themes won't hide frame-borders.

Why do they show up on some themes and not others?

I guess that's a theme question not an XFCE question. :-)

Those rectangles are called handles and there are there to access the taskbar when it's filled with buttons. It should be there and there's nothing wrong with you installation.

If you right click the rectangles, what happens? Do you get a pop-up menu?

nope they are not separators, my gtk version is 2.10.6-1 in archlinux... I was upgraded my gtk2 version some time ago and this rectangles are showing at this time!

Are they separators? If you right click them what does the pop-up say? The name (description) is usually at the top.
