I've tried running both files xfce4-session-logout and xfsm-shutdown-helper from the run dialog and terminal. I've tried it with and without sudo and gksudo. Neither one will work. xfsm-shutdown-helper gives one output, "XFSM_SUDO_DONE" then "FAILED". I also tried your permissions recommendation. The results are still the same.

The quit command in the menu triggers xfce4-session-logout or xfsm-shutdown-helper IIRC and it probably is a permission problem. Maybe you're not in the power group (run gpasswd -a <yourname> power) or something like that.

When xfce4-session is run, a message appears stating that another session manager is already running. Here's the weird thing, when xfce4-session-logout is run in a terminal, a message appears saying no session manager is running. GDM is my currently installed display manager. Thanks for taking time to answer my questions.

I am having difficulty with Xfce 4.2 on the dream linux distro. The Xfce menu option to quit, which would normally allow a user to log off, restart, shutdown ect... does not work. When using the menu edit tool to see the command invoked, the command is simply 'quit'. A careful search of my system reveals no file by that name. Additionally, running the command xfce-session-logout from the run command has no effect. I found a somewhat related solution on an ubuntu forum, whose solution was to add a new group with rights to shutdown the computer and add custom options to the Xfce menu to invoke shutdown commands. Am I somehow missing a library or symbolic link? Any help would be appreciated.
