Is the fam daemon running (if you're not using gamin)?
Is Thunar compiled with fam/gamin support? (objdump -x <prefix>/lib/libthunar-vfs-1.so | grep libhal)

I downloaded, file to Desktop (in my case /home/zulik/Desktop)
Press the buttun - show Desktop (from XFCE suite)
And I didn't see the file.
next...
open terminal, run mc
cd /home/zulik/Desktop
I see this file here !

so !
Why directory Desktop doesn't refresh automaticly!?
