Xubuntu with xfce4-settings 4.9

Oke so i installed xubuntu 11.10 with Xfce 4.8.3 and i want to manually install xfce4-settings 4.9 and xfce4-panel 4.9
Can i install only this two?? will be any problems??

I read the Building Page and from what i understand i need to download the source put in /usr/local/sources and run

./configure --prefix=${PREFIX} && make && make install

${PREFIX} is the location where Xfce is installed right? eg. /opt or /usr/local/ ?
on xubuntu where is xfce installed it is oke to install it in the same place??

Sorry for my noobish questions but this is the second time i install an app from source...i need to learn moreee
