the admin printer config applet, system-config-printer, finds the canon mx870 via its ip address but doesn't print. there is a print queue on a win2003 server for this printer too but this printer config applet doesn't find it.

the help box returns "queue not enabled"
     The queue "mx870" is not enabled. the reason given is: '/usr/lib/cups/backend/lpd' failed"

printer is enabled, though i have to tick that all the time as it doesn't stay that way.

any thoughts as what i can ckeck to get this to print from this virtual machine? all windows clients print fine.
