I set up GDM as per the faq you linked me to. No dice. However I see a error pop up on the bottom of the .xsession-errors (which can be seen here http://justpaste.it/16e9) which seems to give a clue

I got this problem once. I think that the problem is that xfce is started the wrong way and crash. Then you get back to the login screen.
Make sure that you start Xfce with Gdm as in the FAQ : http://wiki.xfce.org/faq#is_it_possible … e_with_dms

And also take a look in ~/.xsession-errors

So I installed arch a few days ago. I followed the beginner section on the arch wiki and eventually had a arch system running to my satisfaction. I decided to go with XFCE as my window manager and GDM as my display manager. (Additionally I have Gnome 3 installed just to test it out).

So yesterday I decided to test out qingy as my display manager so I replaced GDM with it and rebooted. Qingy was very buggy for me (Anything I wrote was written out twice (So if I wrote root it was entered as rroooott, very annoying). So I remover qingy and reinstalled QDM as that had worked previously. I rebooted, started up xfce as my session and saw my desktop load (I saw the wallpaper, icons and panels) a second later the screen goes black, I see the login prompt on console for a split second and then I am back in GDM. This happens every time I try to start xfce as my session now. So currently I am using Gnome 3 but I'd rather go back to my xfce setup.

I got the errors logged and here is the log file > http://justpaste.it/16ct

Is there any way to fix this?
