Have been running Xfce in Xubuntu for some time as Unity and I clashed! I am pretty happy with the Arch box today - everything seems to be working! It has been a highly educational trip to this point. I really want to explore the ins and outs of Xfce. The difference between the Xubuntu implementation and the Arch implementation is quite interesting.
