Nautilus pulls in too much of Gnome for my taste and takes over desktop management in a very unpleasant way in xfce 4.8. Except for one or two apps, I'm so over Gnome at this point.

I haven't tried it but spacefm is a file manager that can be the way you want it to be.

I really like some of the features of thunar. However, the lack of a 2 panel mode puts it into the "nice, but no" pile for me. And, for my wife's computer ... I shudder thinking about how to get her to open 2 instances of thunar or copy/paste files

nautilus was made for GNOME2 and uses its settings.
You can copy a file instead of moving it with ctrl+drag

Hi,

I have recently had a discussion with other people regarding to which file manager should be used in xfce. People strongly argued to use nautilus because it can copy the file by moving the icon. Given the fact that the xfce chooses thunar as a default file manager, it seems there must be some advantage for using thunar and I am just wondering why xfce selects thurnar as a default file manager in the first place. Appreciate your comments.
