There's a bug report for that so it can be customizable. For now the only way I know for you to revert to your system user name is to remove the long name.

Hi,
I've read somewhere a solution in the past, but I'm not able to found it again.

Just tried Xubuntu 12.10 with Xfce 4.10 , and I see in upper right my FULL name , like "John Doe".
I'd like to see just my shorter system username, as in Xfce 4.8 on oneiric, like "john".

Is this customizable?
