smart panel hiding

There's an option that allows the panel to automatically get hidden when a window is  about to cross over. Is there any way to turn on this option in such a way that when new windows are generated by software, for example with Ctrl+N in thunar, their position is set so that they do not cross the panel area and thus do not cause its disappearance? It means that turning on this option should not modify the screen size made available to graphical programs.

Re: smart panel hiding

Hello and welcome.

Set a margin (Settings Manager > Workspaces > Margins tab). For example, if the size of your panel is 36, and it is located on the right side of your screen, set a margin of 40 for the right border. New windows will then not occupy this area.

Re: smart panel hiding

ssupper, this works nicely. Though this is a work around that requires the user to manually set the margin value after what was set for the panel height, there should be an option just below the "smart panel hiding" option to tell Xfce to set this margin automatically.

You could create an enhancement request over at https://bugzilla.xfce.org/.
