Panel not at edge of screen

I'm using xfce-panel 4.12.2 on an xfce 4.12 session on debian buster on a chuwi hi12 tablet.

There is one panel at the top of the screen and I have it fully configured to my taste. The panel is
35 pixels high.

My only problem is that the panel is not flush up against the top edge of the screen. There is a strip
of desktop above it which I estimate to be about 10 pixels high.

I can find no way of moving the panel to the screen edge.

Any suggestions?

Does Window Manager > Advanced tab, Window snapping distance help?

Nope.

Set it to extreme "wide" and extreme "small" log out and log in again. No change.

Could it be anything to do with a mysterious file ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/icons.screen0-2144x1424.rc ??

Can you post back the results of:

xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -lv

Is this a HiDPI device? Do you have scaling enabled?

xfconf-query -c xsettings -lv

No. That is the xfdesktop config file for icon placement.

Not sure about HiDPI. It does 2160x1440 on a 12" screen.

No scaling to the best of my knowledge.

Two ways that this can be fixed:

1. Long way - Right-click the panel and select Panel>Panel Preferences and on the Display tab, make sure that "Lock Panel" is unchecked. This should display a handle at the front of the panel. Click, hold and drag the panel with your mouse to the top of the screen.

2. Short way - run this command:

xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -p /panels/panel-1/position -s "p=6;x=100;y=30"
