Desktop background can't be set

Hi
Trying to change the background of my desktop, i right clicked on the desktop and navigated ton image i had downloaded.
In this browser the image's name was shown but it was greyed out, and when i selected this directory, the preview showed nothing at all.
The same holds for the images in /usr/share/backgrounds/xfce

This happens with XFCE on CentOS 7.

Any idea how i can fix this?
