[Solved] Debian -- XFCE4 panel backup

The problem is the following.
I have xfce4 and I have configured my panels on my machine (source machine).
I have an other machine (dest machine) running also under the same distribution and same DE xfce4. This machine has the original panels (two panels that I would like to change). I would like to put my configured panel from the  source machine into the dest machine so that in the end both machines have the same panel.

---
More precisely:

Here is my source machine :

         ,g$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$P. OS: Debian 9.8 stretch
        ,g$$P"" """Y$$.". Kernel: x86_64 Linux 4.19.0-0.bpo.2-amd64
       ,$$P' `$$$. Uptime: 2h 45m
      ',$$P ,ggs. `$$b: Packages: 1709
      `d$$' ,$P"' . $$$ Shell: bash 4.4.12
       $$P d$' , $$P Resolution: 1920x1080
       $$: $$. - ,d$$' DE: XFCE
       $$\; Y$b._ _,d$P' WM: Xfwm4
       Y$$. `.`"Y$$$$P"' WM Theme: Default
       `$$b "-.__ GTK Theme: Adwaita-dark [GTK2]
        `Y$$ Icon Theme: Tango
         `Y$$. Font: Sans 10
           `$$b. CPU: Intel Core i5-6440HQ CPU @ 3.5GHz
`Y$$b. GPU: Mesa DRI Intel(R) HD Graphics 530 (Skylake GT2)
                `"Y$b._ RAM: 3656MiB / 7599MiB
                    `""""

I would like to backup my panel on this source machine to restore it on on dest machine.

---

Attempts:

- I copied the folder ~/.config of my source machine to my dest machine.
Only the shortcuts, windows behavior is good but the panel is unchanged on my dest machine.

I am wondering if there are other folders I should copy...

- Also it seems to me that xfpanel-switch is not available on Debian stretch.

Re: [Solved] Debian -- XFCE4 panel backup

Hello and welcome.

xfpanel-switch really is the easiest way to do this. Fortunately, you can easily install it in Debian Stretch:

  1. Get the deb file from Ubuntu's xfpanel-switch launchpad site (direct link)

  2. Install it via:

    sudo dpkg -i xfpanel-switch_1.0.7-0ubuntu2_all.deb
  3. Run it via:

    xfpanel-switch

Re: [Solved] Debian -- XFCE4 panel backup

It's worked.

Although this package is for ubuntu, we regret it's not in the official repo of debian... not even in testing.

Also what this tools is making shouldn't be that complicated to have a generic bash script. Anyway problem solved
