vertical workplace switcher and login problems

I've moved from Gnome2 to xFce, It kind of reminds me of Gnome1, which I liked. Big problem:

Workplace switcher does not want to work in vertical mode, tries to be horizontal and looses
settings after reboot.

Also, not every reboot is successful, windows loose the upper blue control line or what you call it.

Any chances this will be fixed? Or should I just use the default setup of the desktop? Or
should I look elsewhere?
