[Solved] problem with volume

Hi
I just installed XFCE4 in my Arch machine and having problems with the sound.
I add the sound mixer to the panel, set it to my sound card and to control the master volume.
the problem is that when i drag all the way down the volume slider the speaker/headphone gets muted
and when i drag the slider up I get no sound as the speaker/headphone remains muted.
then i have to open audio mixer and unmute the channels.

xfce4-volumed 0.1.13-7
xfce4-mixer 4.11.0-1

I got XFCE version 4.10 distributed by Arch Linux

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Re: [Solved] problem with volume

I had that same issue with a previous version of Mint (my distro). With the current version, the issue is not present.

The versions of those two files you mentioned, as listed in Synaptic Package Manager on my system, are:
xfce4-volumed 0.2.0ubuntu1
xfce4-mixer 4.10.0-1ubuntu2 (This file is NOT installed on my computer, BtW.)

Is it possible for you to update your copy of xfce4-volumed to 0.2.0 or at least some version which is newer than the one that you currently have installed? That might cause the issue to go away.

Regards,
MDM

Re: [Solved] problem with volume

Looks like there are two active bug reports for this:
- https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8291

I've resorted to using pnmixer-xfce4 until its fixed.

Re: [Solved] problem with volume

I installed it eons ago when the installation script worked. If you look at the comments on that page, you'll see that its not working. Sorry I didn't check it before posting.

I just successfully built pnmixer and it seems to work fine. pnmixer-xfce was basically pnmixer with 2 patches. Looks like one patch is no longer needed and I can't see any mouse speed problem on this build. Perhaps give it a try.
