Restart, Shut Down greyed out for user account.

I have a desktop LFS build. This is my newest build which is the latest LFS offers (Xfxe 4.12).

In my previous build using Xfce 4.10, I was able to get this to work by giving my user account full sudo privileges. That doesn't seem to work this time. I also tried adding /sbin to the path of the user so that it can see "shutdown" and "reboot". That doesn't work either. I'm at a loss at this point.

Even though I can do "sudo /sbin/shutdown -h now", it logs out of Xfce and the screen goes black but it just sits there. The computer doesn't shut off. As "root", all these things work as you would expect it to.

It's not the end of the world but just wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Re: Restart, Shut Down greyed out for user account.

I typed "site:https://forum.xfce.org shutdown greyed out" (sans quotation marks) into the Googlemonster, and here are (some of) the results I saw:
https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=5701
https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=9150
https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=7713
https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=6343
https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=6090
https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=6007
https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=3631

You may find a solution in one of the above threads. If not, you may find something by performing the same search, but with slightly different terms (such as "shut down" instead of shutdown, grayed instead of greyed, et cetera).

Regards,
MDM

Thanks MDM. Unfortunately, the possible solutions for this problem is all over the map. I've explored those as well as what google can provide. I'll just live in root.

This doesn't sound like an Xfce issue.  To make sure, log out, switch to a text console and log in there as your normal user and try shutting down.  If you get the same results, go to the help forum (or mailing list) for your distro and ask there.

Good luck, and keep us informed.
