Bountysource now accepts monthly donations

I noticed it's now possible to setup a monthly donation at Bountysource. There's also the XFCE project.

Re: Bountysource now accepts monthly donations

I can't see anything (blank page), because they run CloudFlare scripts and my script-blocker shoots those down. Does the Xfce project take checks, international money orders, things like that? Or just PayPal.

Regards,
MDM

Re: Bountysource now accepts monthly donations

The payment options are Paypal and credit card.

MDM, why does the script-blocker block CloudFlare? Or does it simply block all 3rd party scripts?

In that case, is there a snail mail address to which one might anonymously send cash in an envelope and hope it is not discovered en route?

It blocks all scripts unless/until I give them either temporary or permanent permission on a case-by-case basis. They'll be having snowball fights in Hades before I do that for CloudFlare.

Re: Bountysource now accepts monthly donations

MDM, buy a pre-paid "credit card," with Just Enough Money in it to pay them, and get rid of it as soon as the payment clears if you want it to be that anonymous.

Re: Bountysource now accepts monthly donations

I don't care if it's not (or is) anonymous.

What address would I mail the pre-paid card to?

MDM

Re: Bountysource now accepts monthly donations

You wouldn't; you'd use the card number to make the donation and there'd be no way to trace it back to you if that's what you want.

Re: Bountysource now accepts monthly donations

Ah, forget it, if they CBA to go to their mailbox and retrieve an envelope then they must not want donations all that much.

I'll give my money (it isn't very much, to be honest - it would be coming out of my very limited food budget) to a local homeless shelter instead. They don't have a problem with accepting it via the mail.

I was just going to send it to the Xfce people because I use their DE daily.

MDM

Re: Bountysource now accepts monthly donations

What an ugly attitude some people have...
Whatever, I have a question to the Xfce team: Do you really need donations at the moment?? Honestly!
If yes I would give some and post a link on Manajro forum where there many many Xfce fans who wouldn't mind if the project had a future.
Kind regards

Re: Bountysource now accepts monthly donations

Xfce could use some more developers. The bountysource (via donations or placing bounties on issues) is one way to try to encourage developers to participate. More information here (the certificate has expired, so I will quote):

Hi everyone,

Recently Eric and I have been setting up Xfce on bountysource.com[1] and we've finally reached a stage where I think we can go public.

For a while the Xfce developer community was striving to establish a non-profit Foundation, a process that stalled for years mostly due to the bureaucratic nature of the enterprise. (In comparison, setting up the account on bountysource was a breeze.)

To get to the point: we see bountysource[2] as an easy way to offer the community with a way to financially support Xfce. There are two avenues a backer can choose from.
1) Set a bounty on a specific bug (we've pulled in all the reports for many components already, so you can easily find them on bountysource.com)
2) Back the Xfce team

The latter option means that the members of the Xfce team can decide on which bugs they want to spend the donated funds.

Just to be clear, our main motivation is not to make money from contributing to Xfce, but to lure new contributors into hacking on Xfce. As development has slowed down a bit lately, Xfce definitely needs new maintainers and developers, especially as we focus on the bugs that are blocking a 4.12 release[3][4].

If you're a user and your favorite part of Xfce does not yet show up on bountysource [5], feel free to tell us! If you're a developer and haven't received an invitation email yet, accept my sincere apologies and get in touch! (I'm still in the process of sending them out by the way, but yeah, lack of free time as always and other distractions...)

So, spread the word, back the project, and let's get people to contribute!

Cheers
Simon
