Items from my panel disappears (from time to time)

I have customized my panel to include clocks, launcher, keyboard indicator... But from time to time some items from my panels disappear (the last time it was clock) and I have to add them on the panel again sad. I am running Xubuntu Dapper 6.06. Thanks for your help, Marek

Re: Items from my panel disappears (from time to time)

Have you deleted any .directories in your home directory?

I removed some (.kde I think) when I removed the KDE apps from the system and then this happened. I am not sure this is the reason but if you also did something similar it might answer the question.

Re: Items from my panel disappears (from time to time)

I have this problem only when I do a dist-upgrade or when I upgrade my xfce.

Re: Items from my panel disappears (from time to time)

The panel configuration is saved in ~/.config/xfce/panel so it
seems very unlikely removing the .kde folder removes items from
the panel.

But since you're most likely using 4.2, upgrade to 4.4rc1, because all
"advisors" on this forum are using 4.4 and 4.4 is much better :-).

Re: Items from my panel disappears (from time to time)

I have run 4.4RC1 but I don't get a desktop icon for USB devices, so I went back to 4.2.

I still keep trying it in case it's a config problem but it's the same on desktops and laptops.

I'm using the latest SVN. I don't think, that this is something with the configuration of the panel. The normal icons are still there. Most time after a update, the clipboard-, mixer- and the mountplugin disappear. (and yes, I also use the latest svn-versions of these plugins).

Re: Items from my panel disappears (from time to time)

Just installed Xubuntu Edgy Eft and whilst trying to get wireless working the network and weather failed to load. Which as they depend on the network I can understand. Strangely the main menu also disappeared. I added them all back and so far they have stayed there.

Not a real problem, but might help if someone goes through the same experience.  smile

Re: Items from my panel disappears (from time to time)

Does this only affect external plugins (all plugins mentioned on this page are external) ? Because when the panel crashed (for example Ctrl+Alt+Backspace), it's possible the plugin is removed, like it does when an external plugin crashes.

Re: Items from my panel disappears (from time to time)

I am running 4.4 RC1 (Xubunu 6.10) and have the same problem.
The Xfce Menü disappears also from time to time(and some other plugins, like Orage Clock).

Re: Items from my panel disappears (from time to time)

But WHEN do they disappear? When the panel is running or after you login again.

Re: Items from my panel disappears (from time to time)

After a login.

But some things stay there, and some disappear. After the next login some other things disappear....

Strange behaviour.

Re: Items from my panel disappears (from time to time)

Ok that means the plugins disappear when the panel exits. How do you guys exit windows? Exit via session manager? Ctrl+Alt+Backspace?

Re: Items from my panel disappears (from time to time)

This happened to me when connected (connecting?) to a wireless network.

If the connection failed I would lose the weather applet, which made sense since it could not update but also the main menu and sometime other items.

I never did work it out but since getting on a cabled network it hasn't happened.

Made sense? It's a bug which should be fixed...

Also agreed.

But to awnser your question, from site 1.
I log out myself via the xfce menü, and not by restarting the X Server...

It makes sense why the applet should be effected by network accessibility, whereas the menu applet should not be looking at the network anyway. Is that clearer?

Re: Items from my panel disappears (from time to time)

Happend again for me

This time I closed it "wrongly", with my
laptop power button. Equal to ctrl-alt-delete
I quess.

It works ok sometimes.

The ones that dissapeared:

  • orage clock

  • two network monitors

  • a homemade python plugin

  • battery monitor

  • mixer

The ones left:

  • program launchers

  • quick launcher

  • desktop manager? (overview of all desktops)

  • system buttons (quit)

  • notifier field

It would also be good if the settings for the plugins
was kept so I don't have to configure them everytime.
Sometimes I wan't a plugin and sometimes not.
