[Solved] Desktop Icons in Ver 4.3.99.1

I have XFCE4 version 4.3.99.1 installed in three distros. On two of the distros I can add program icons to the desktop by starting Appfinder, the dragging the program/icon I want to the desktop. On the other distro, dragging the program/icon does nothing. I wonder if I am missing a package or do I have something configured wrong?

Thanks for any help, jimbo

You could start by checking if there are differences in the xfdesktop options:

xfdesktop --version

Yes, the one that doesn't work has only: "None" and "Minimized application icons". The one that works also has "File/launcher icons", which is selected.

Thanks for any additional help, jimbo

are you sure the version in that distro is 4.3.99.1?

It turns out that the xfce package from the problem distro had an error that prevented desktop icons from working. A later update solved the problem.

Re: [Solved] Desktop Icons in Ver 4.3.99.1

Hi Guys,
Newbie here. This is my first post. I have old computers at home and gnome and kde makes them move like grannies. I am using Suse 10.1 and decided to stick with xfce for that reason. I downloaded and compiled the xfce rc2 and tried it but the feature of having a launcher icon on my desktop is gone. The only feature it has is the minimize icon on my desktop. I hope my explanation is enough to understand for I am not really good in speaking and writing in english.Any help will be appreciated, my kids wants to have those icons back.

haven't used xfce in a while but i think you can find the option in either xfdesktop settings or thunar settings

Can't find the option in that locations. Seems that feature is not available. Looks like the launcher icon  is missing or not enable when I built the package. Any thoughts?

Thanks

From the menu, settings, desktop settings. Click the behaviour tab. Half way down is Desktop icons.

You're looking for File Launcher icons. Then create all the icons you want. You may want to untick Show desktop menu on right click just above it to create the icons and then maybe tick it again.
