Re: plz help

Hi Bruce
After looking at the web I have found out it is Linpus linux lite. On a acer aspire one.
               I am trying to change the desk top appearance, by removing the default menus. in the mag "Linux  Format". I t tell me to change the XFCE`s configurtion file, which I need to enter "terminal" then log into the root.
Then type MOUSEPAD /ETC/EDG/XFCE4-SESSION/EFCE-SESSION.RC
When I have done this a box appears with a warning in it and that is all in that box, there is surpose to be a file which I need to change a line from
    CLIENT0_COMMAND=EXDESKTOPNEW  change to
    CLIENT0_COMMEND=XFDESKTOP-XFCE
Then close and restart computer then reopen terminal again, and type
     MOUSEPAD USER/SHARE/SEARCH-BAR/START-SEARCH_BAR.SH
And put # (commenting out) in front of all the line of the programe so the computer doesnot read them.
      Hope that helps

Stokie

Re: plz help

Dear stokie,

the file you want to modify is:

/etc/xdg/xfce4-session/xfce4-session.rc

You need to type it exactly as above, the computer can't fix a typo.

I gather you don't know what 'log into the root' really is about, right?
In this case, type:

sudo mousepad /etc/xdg/xfce4-session/xfce4-session.rc

It will ask you your password so that you can modify this system file (Regular users aren't allowed to).

And if a 'new page opens' and a warning appears, we'd like to read what the warning was so that we can understand what went wrong.

hth,

herd

Re: plz help

Hi Stokie

herd gave it to you correctly.

I'd like to add this:

The first thing you should do when it is opened BEFORE making changes is use the "save as" command.

and save it as:

xfce4-session.rc_bak

so you have a backup of the original file.
then reissue the command:

sudo mousepad /etc/xdg/xfce4-session/xfce4-session.rc

to make your edits.

Yours must be different (maybe because of the OS)

Mine shows:

# $Id: xfce4-session.rc 23542 2006-10-28 13:23:00Z benny $
#
