You may have a problem with your installation? Because the mixer of Xfce 4.6 comes with its own icons and I don't have this issue . I think they are originally in /usr/share/xfce4-mixer/icons/hicolor/. Maybe you should try to copy them in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/?

There is something  with gtk-update-icon-cache on my computer. Everything is OK.

Re: [SOLVED, crutch][XFCE 4.6] No icon for mixer applet

Sorry... but I still can't understand this. My story - i'm trying to make a big packege xfce-4.6 made of fat_tarball src package. So I've wrote a Slackbuild script based on old for 4.3.3. Every package is configured and installed, when it also copied to a special package dir (e.g make install && make install DESTDIR-). But there is no icon for xfce4-mixer...

I've copied icons from /usr/share/xfce4-mixer/icons/hicolor to /usr/share/icons/hicolor - no icons.
But after some shamanic dances icon appear.

Then I've tried to replay my doings on a virtual machine - no effects. Where is my mistake?

Solution: copy /usr/share/xfce4-mixer/icons/hicolor to your icon theme folder; gtk-update-icon-cache -f %path_to_your_icon_theme%
