recordmydesktop sound problem

I have an awful ticking sound when I use recordmydesktop (in the finished movie) has anyone else had this problem if so how did you sort it out. I've tried the sound recorder and it records my voice ok,  so the sound card is working. Not sure if it is because I'm working in virtualbox (don't think so as I do screencasting from xp in virtualbox) OS is PC-OS in virtualbox 2.2 running on host Ubuntu Hardy heron LTS

been playing about with screen capture software and here are my discoveries

recordmydektop has an awful clicking sound on the finished recording ( no answer from the guy who rins PC-OS as to why this is)
Istanbul hangs when trying to save what has been recorded.
Xvidcap works so far on my first test video but I'm a novice at using and setting up xvidcap so we will see how this works out.
