No window decorations,, no settings

Hi,

I've tried to install compiz over xfce4 (from synaptic), which have failed with some errors.
I remove it from synaptic, and now all windows are docked to left side top of the screen,
having no decorations at all, no caption and switching between them does not work.
All windows are stacked on top of eah other and clicking does not bring the window to top (latest stacks up).
Also the xfce4-settings pages : window manager tweaks & windows manager are blank.

Here is the info form About:Info--------------------------------------
-OS: Ubuntu januty 32 bit.
Xfce 4 Desktop Environment
version 4.6.0 (Xfce 4.6)

Xfce is a collection of programs that together provide a full-featured
desktop environment. The following programs are part of Xfce:

o Window manager (xfwm4)
handles the placement of windows on the screen

o Panel (xfce4-panel)
program launchers, popup menus, clock, desktop switcher and more

o Desktop manager (xfdesktop)
sets a background color or image and provides a menu when you click on
   the desktop background

o File manager (thunar)
   fast file manager

o Session manager (xfce4-session)
restores your session on startup and allows you to shutdown the computer
   from Xfce

o Utilities
   xfprint4: print files
   xfrun4: run programs

Here is the process list:------(also can't type in a console if ran as a second app)----
(Also cannot use gimp to cut it a proper size so here it is in full size 1.1 Mb)

Re: No window decorations,, no settings

Try ALT+F2-> xfwm4 , if that doesn't work open a terminal and try launching "nohup xfwm4 &".

Re: No window decorations,, no settings

Hi,

Thank you!  it worked.
How do I make it resident.
Each time I restart the session xfce is back on no-decorations state.
Do I add it to startups. Is this a viable solution ?

Re: No window decorations,, no settings

You might also have to save your Session with xfwm4 running.
