Will there be an xfdm among other things?

xdm is quite ancient, and SLIM isn't even in the ubuntu repositories anymore, and I don't use SSH, so I cannot use ldm or sdm.

Also, will you people be making something similar to pidgin, empathy or kopete? Because pidgin relies on gconf, believe it or not (so does compiz even though I have it set to flatfile.)

Similarly, will there be an xfsu? Because gksu requires gconf as well, even though it's just a gtk app.

I just don't want all these gnome dependencies on my xfce with ubuntu repos. (No, I'm not willing to go to arch and sit around for a long time figuring out how to install it, and no, I will never read a manual to install an OS, when it could be simplified. No, I am not willing to install Sabayon, it only comes in KDE and GNOME, since the miniEdition has been scrapped. No, I do not want to waste my DVD-Rs, and cannot afford DVD-/+RWs at the moment.)

Also, will there be an equivalent to gdebi?

Re: Will there be an xfdm among other things?

I don't think there are any plans for a Login Manager atm.

pidgin requires gconf? I think not, your distro must be confused.

ktsuss will probably suite your needs smile

Either way, Xfce is GTK+ based so you will use some GNOME stuff (libwnck for example).  Its not the end of the world, as long as the majority of them aren't installed/running sucking up resources.  You need to be flexible, "No I won't do this and no I won't read that" are generally not good attitudes tongue

Like when the launchpad.net people have "good" attitudes as well, I'll stop asking for things that cannot be done. ktsuss also gives me this buffer overflow:

Re: Will there be an xfdm among other things?

Hi and welcome.

Since it's not really a problem with Xfce itself, I move it in Community Discussion -> General.

Ask the Ubuntu bad boys to put it back (slim) on their repositories. There's a new upstream maintainer and most of the annoying bugs have been solved in Debian.

1. I'll just use wdm

2. Thanks for ayttm (though it gives me an annoying MSN connection has been reset error every like 5-10 minutes)

3. https://launchpad.net/+search?field.text=ktsuss

But still works perfectly well, is probably the lightest you could find, has the minimum of dependencies and doesn't look as bad as people think it looks.

Not sure why you'd need a graphical login manager, anyway.

I like it better than terminal to be honest. Anyway, Ubuntu Lucid will have SLiM in the repos.

Oh yeah, and, see this bug about pidgin: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/507971
