where are the icons stored in xfce

I have added some programs to the panel and I would like to add the appropriate icons eg firefox thunderbird, Also I would like to add some of my own, I know when I select the properties for the launcher the icon I want isn't in there, where are they stored so I can add the 1,s I want. Also want format should they be.

Re: where are the icons stored in xfce

The system icons are stored at /usr/share/icons/<theme> where <theme> is the name of the icon theme (have a look at the icon naming standard at http://standards.freedesktop.org/icon-n … atest.html for more information about the structure of the theme).

You can store your own icons in ~/.icons (or really anywhere you want). When you go to select an icon, you can choose "Image Files" from the "Select icon from" dropdown to be able to search for specific files.

I believe most graphic formats are supported. SVG & PNG are the more common ones, but I've successfully used many other formats.

When you go to the launcher properties, click on the edit button, click the icon, choose "Image Files" from the "Select Icon From" dropdown, traverse to the location of the png file, do you not see the file listed? By default it lists all image files.

Re: where are the icons stored in xfce

Hi

Yes I get that far but when I navigate to the folder the image is in, it,s not shown,
When I installed Gimp and Terminator the icons were found when I select all icons but Firefox and Thunderbird aren't there

Re: where are the icons stored in xfce

Maybe I didn't understand very well your question but why don't you use the desktop files (the ones that show in the menu)?
If you just want a different icon, then copy the desktop file you want from /usr/share/applications to ~/.local/share/applications and change the 'Icon=' value.

Re: where are the icons stored in xfce

Ok I have found the icons that change the panel launchers /usr/share/icons/hicolor/ I then saved a file firefox.png size 48x48 to the apps folder where all the icons show, But it still dosn't show when I want to change the icon, all the others are there.
