No icons visible on desktop (puppy linux, xfce4.8)

I installed xfce into slacko puppy using a .pet file. I think it was this one: http://ubuntuone.com/1QKMH1WXMzpaN0GjaJeCvr

There are some things that have  I put into the Desktop directory, but no matter what I do I can't make any icons display on the desktop. So please hit me with any ideas or queries that might help me get those icons showing. I am really impressed with Xfce and I just need this to work. I am new to linux btw and I won't compile any source code on it anytime soon.

Re: No icons visible on desktop (puppy linux, xfce4.8)

Try this : Settings manager (xfce4-settings-manager) >> Desktop >> Icons >> Icon type
Set it to File/launcher icon

Xfce is NOT Xubuntu. Bugs in Xubuntu don't mean that Xfce is buggy ...

xfdesktop service is started?

open terminal and try

~$ ps ax | grep xfdesktop

Show the result. This service manage desktop background, right click and icons on the desktop.
