Desktop Icons&Wallpaper Problem

Hi everyone smile

Today i installed the latest xfce version (with ubuntu 12.04).

Great work, looks fine. I really like it.

Im not a linux-pro so be nice pls.

After installing, the Desktop-Background disappeared, no desktop-icons and no right-click on the desktop worked.

After some searching, this looks like a familiar bug.

If i did "xfdesktop --reload" in the console all worked but i didnt want to write this on every startup.

I read that nautilus might be the "bad guy" here.

I created a file in /usr/local/bin named "nautilus" containing:

#!/bin/sh
nautilus --no-desktop

did nothing.

I deinstalled nautilus.

Now i have desktop-icons and a wallpaper(but a  bad one), no right-click and the desktop-icons open with a single leftclick.

I don't know what i could try now and hope someone here can help me out

thanks
claus

Re: Desktop Icons&Wallpaper Problem

Try clearing your sessions cache. Best way to do this is logout, go to first tty (Ctrl+Alt+F1), login to text session, delete the sessions cache:

rm -rf ~/.cache/sessions

...go back to gui (Ctrl+Alt+F7) and log back in.

Re: Desktop Icons&Wallpaper Problem

And it set to display icons? (Settings Manager -> Desktop -> Icons tab -> Icon Type = File/launcher icons)

And confirmed that nautilus isn't running and xfdesktop is?

Re: Desktop Icons&Wallpaper Problem

ps -A

doesnt list nautilus as running

But the xfdeskto was not running!?

Strange thing is, sometimes he don't start the xfdesktop. I don't know why.

Re: Desktop Icons&Wallpaper Problem

What, if anything, does your ~/.xsession-errors log say about xfdesktop not running?
