keyboard shortcuts randomly stop working

I am using XFCE 4.10 on xubuntu 12.10. I'm using compiz, but I also saw this issue before I installed compiz.

totally at random XFCE's keyboard shortcuts just stop working until I log out and log back in, its driving me completely insane. is there any way to fix this? When they stop working there's usually a few of them that keep working (such as ctrl alt del for the lock screen), but most of them stop working (most often it happens to alt f2 and alt f3)

EDIT: I *think* i fixed it. switched out xscreensaver for gnome-screensaver and problem seemed to go away, weird.
