applications menu / panel

hello
I'm new to xubuntu, and got to configure it exactly as I wanted, except for 2 things. Can anyone please tell me if they're possible?
1) I'd like the application menu to have a "search" area similar to KDE/Windows 7/application finder... but also the menu
2) It's possible to pin programs to the panel, but their icon don't disappear after you open it (again, similar to KDE/Windows)

thanks

Re: applications menu / panel

For #1, you can hit Alt-F2 for the search and then down-arrow for a menu. Or, I suppose, you could install xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin (I believe it's so named) from Mint's repositories, as it uses that in place of the regular Xfce menu. They decided to use it for Mint 15 Xfce. It might work on an Ubuntu setup, IDK. Personally, I don't like the thing and it reminds me of an old KDE menu, but it does have a built-in search function for those who cannot find the Alt-F2 one.
