Parole: missing Open Disc Image

I'm almost sure there was an option in Parole to open dvd iso images...
Now, in Xubuntu Quantal (parole 0.3.0.3) I cannot find it.

And if I "force" dialog to show all files and open a iso image, it fails with a gstreamer error...

Maybe I'm just forgetting something simple?

Re: Parole: missing Open Disc Image

If you cannot figure out how to do this with Parole, I think VLC does it.

Re: Parole: missing Open Disc Image

(I've deleted my previous post since it wasn't useful)

NEW STUFF:

I was right, I just fired up a virtual machine with an old xubuntu oneiric iso.

Parole 0.2.0.6 had, under Media, two submenus "DVD" and "CDROM" .
In that case, virtual machine, under each submenu I could see "From ISO image"

Now (parole 0.3.0.3 on xubuntu quantal) I just see a grayed out "insert disc"
Same on parole 0.5.0 on xubuntu raring...

I have not tried Insert Disc, I just would like to play ISO files like before :-)

I could report a bug, but I was just wondering if this is "a bug or a feature" ...

What is the gstreamer error?

Re: Parole: missing Open Disc Image

Gstreamer backend error: Could not determine type of stream.

But this is obviously wrong since iso are not shown by default in that open dialog.

Maybe iso support had been removed?

Re: Parole: missing Open Disc Image

IIRC, VLC handles .ISO files (and just about every other type) just fine. It's also pretty lightweight while at the same time not dependent on having codecs installed on your system. It even handles .RAR files, if you'd like to compress your media in order to save space. Converts files, et cetera.

Re: Parole: missing Open Disc Image

vlc , totem and smplayer all opens iso files, I know :-)
But I'd like to do it with xfce default media player as I was doing in oneiric with parole previous version...

At least I reported a bug (if this is a bug). Then if developer says that iso playback is not supported anymore, I will just use another media player (but I hope iso playback will come back...)

Re: Parole: missing Open Disc Image

Might try the current version (0.4.0 ?). An easy way to get it is to add the XFCE 4.12 PPA to your sources. I think you have to add the 4.10 PPA first, though.

If I could find a really small public domain .ISO (that contains playable meda), I'd test it for you.

EDIT: I just saw your bug report and that you tried Parole 0.5.0. Sorry for assuming you hadn't tried a newer version.

EDIT #2: 0.6 is available here:

Re: Parole: missing Open Disc Image

Quite weird to have 0.6 when on git.xfce.org latest is 0.5.2
...

Anyway I found other issues (weird issues with some movies, not bugs) that almost force me to use vlc ... :-)
Thank you for your effort!

Not at all - those are daily builds. OtOH, if the issue you are having is also present in .6, it's definitely a current issue.
