[Solved] No GUI tool to change user pwd?

Hi

I googled for a longer time but did not find an answer.

I installed for my mom Linux Mint Maya (13) with XFCE4 64 bit. She just moved from Win and likes Linux Mint a lot, But:

Is there no GUI tool to change user password??? She does not want to work with the CLI...

Thanks!
Michael

Re: [Solved] No GUI tool to change user pwd?

I believe that the gnome-system-tools package has the users-admin app which is a graphical account management tool. Not a Mint user, but be aware that this package may bring in additional gnome dependencies.

Re: [Solved] No GUI tool to change user pwd?

That means there is no XFCE tool for account management? Or one with no dependencies (because everything is already there for XFCE)?

Thanks!

Re: [Solved] No GUI tool to change user pwd?

No, there is no native Xfce account management GUI that I am aware of nor that I have ever seen. By way of comparison, Xubuntu (13.10) now includes users-admin from gnome-system-tools for user management by default.

EDIT: Just came across this. Looks like something is in design phase. Possibly this branch in git?

EDIT 2: Related thread here with some more information and suggestion for Debian.

gnome-system-tools is good! Easy to use and does not need a lot more stuff to work!

Problem solved!

My stock Debian Wheezy Xfce system tells me that gnome-system-tools requires 174 additional packages to be installed.

What if you used --no-install-recommends? How many packages would be required then? Is it considerably less?

Yes, that makes a HUGE difference:

apt-get install gnome-system-tools --no-install-recommends
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
  liboobs-1-5 system-tools-backends
Recommended packages:
  gnome-control-center
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  gnome-system-tools liboobs-1-5 system-tools-backends
0 upgraded, 3 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 5,543 kB of archives.
After this operation, 11.8 MB of additional disk space will be used.
