Window Tiling left/right

Hello dear Forum!

XFCE 4.8
Debian Wheezy 7.2.0
How can I have a window tiling (so it takes up half of the screen) left/right,
and choose a shortcut for this?
I found a solution which said I can assign the keyboard shortcut "ile window to left",
but I cant find it.

Many thanks in advance,
sony

oh.. I see..! Is 4.10 not available in the debian repository?
Is there an easy way to upgrade, without losing my settings?

Re: Window Tiling left/right

4.10 is available in testing (jessie), if you upgrade to testing you should upgrade to 4.10 without losing any settings, but you may have some issues since it's newer stuff.

According to various Debian Wiki webpages:

Wheezy was released and development on Jesse started on 2013-05-04.
Previous to that, Squeez was released and development on Wheezy started on 2011-02-06.

Those two dates cover a time period of approximately 27 months. It has been ~seven months since development on Jesse started.

So, at a guess, at some point around August of 2015, lol, Jesse will become the "new" Debian Stable and you'll be able to get XFCE 4.10 in it. I don't even have a guess as to what version of XFCE other distros will be offering by then. Personally, I have had great success with XFCE version 4.10 (with the additon of the 4.10 and 4.12 PPAs for Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based distros), so it'll probably serve you well. Still, it seems like a long time for you to have to wait for it....

Regards,
MDM

Re: Window Tiling left/right

Maybe you can nag the debian maintainers to add 4.10 to backports. It should be possible to compile and install 4.10 in wheezy but I don't think your settings will be saved, plus it's a mess to deal with.
