Numeric keypad arrows with shift key results in numbers

Hi,

I have trouble finding a solution to an odd problem. I always use the far right hand arrow keys on my keyboard (num-lock is always turned off) and I noticed that when I'm editing text and I make a selection by holding down shift and pressing down I'm getting a '2' as output rather than the downward selection I was hoping for.

Is there a way to tweak this keyboard behavior so that I can make selections with the far right arrow keys?

Hi, pan69.

Can you tell us what text editor you are using when this happens? I use shift+right arrow as you do to select without problems in gedit, Mousepad and LibreOffice Writer.

Hi,

This happens for me in all text editors.

Please keep in mind that I want to use the arrow keys on the far right of the keyboard (the ones normally directed by num-lock), not the ones directly next to the enter key. The arrow keys located between the enter key and keypad work fine.

Sorry! I thought you meant the usual set of arrow keys. I've never used those arrow keys on the number pad!

Ah. To me those ARE the usual arrow keys.

(grew up with an XT and when the AT keyboards came out I never switched over the "new" arrow keys.
