Thunar sometimes cannot open my Home folder

When I open Thunar, a dialog box appears that says "Error when getting information for file '/home/linus/.gvfs': Transport endpoint is not connected." Nautilus can open the folder just fine, and so can Thunar being run as root.

This does not always happen, but it's still very annoying.

Re: Thunar sometimes cannot open my Home folder

What version of Thunar and gvfs do you use?

I used to see this error message in earlier versions which was caused, in my case, by samba mounts that weren't properly preserved between suspends. IIRC, running:

gvfs-mount -u ~/.gvfs

...cleared the error message.

Re: Thunar sometimes cannot open my Home folder

Thunar 1.2.3, I don't know how to find the version of gvfs. I tried running that command, and received an error: "Error finding enclosing mount: Containing mount does not exist"

Re: Thunar sometimes cannot open my Home folder

Yes, you're running an older version of Thunar (and probably gvfs). If you're on a debian-based system, you can try "apt-cache policy gvfs".

Re: Thunar sometimes cannot open my Home folder

Installed: 1.12.1-0ubuntu1.2
  Candidate: 1.12.1-0ubuntu1.2
  Version table:
*** 1.12.1-0ubuntu1.2 0
        500 http://us.archive.trisquel.info/trisquel/ toutatis-updates/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     1.12.1-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://us.archive.trisquel.info/trisquel/ toutatis/main amd64 Packages

As you might guess, I'm using Trisquel, based on Ubuntu.

Re: Thunar sometimes cannot open my Home folder

Here is a related thread that might be useful. It points to this bug report.

Have you determined the trigger? Is it suspend? Log out and back in again?

Re: Thunar sometimes cannot open my Home folder

The solution of sudo umount ~/.gvfs worked for me. I'll see if I can determine the trigger.

Re: Thunar sometimes cannot open my Home folder

I've noticed a similar problem with Thunar 1.6.3, in Manjaro-Xfce.

I usually keep 4 tabs open: /home/~, Dropbox, CDs, / or so.

Sometimes with 2 tabs open to /home/~, of a total of 4 tabs open,
usually the second one sometimes doesn't reload the files listing.
Closing the tab and reloading /home/~ brings the file listing again.
