Network Shares on Desktop

Hi!  I'm attempting to make the full switch to XFCE 4.10 with Thunar 1.6.3 on gentoo.  Is there a way for network shares to have an icon displayed on the desktop when they're connected?  Right now my remote sshfs shares show up without any trouble under "devices" in thunar's side pane, and I have no trouble browsing them or copying their files.  I'm just looking for the icon to show up on the desktop as it does with nautilus.  Is there a way to do this?

Re: Network Shares on Desktop

I realize I'm not the first person to ask this question.  I just found a post by Andreas here:  http://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=8259.  Unfortunately, it doesn't look like anyone's answered him either.  I'm happy to dig into source code if someone can give me somewhere to start!

Re: Network Shares on Desktop

4.12 will have this ability in xfdesktop, which is what currently draws the desktop and icons. You can see an image of it at the bottom of the new docs: http://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfdesktop/4.11/usage  If you're willing, you can test it out with one of the 4.11 dev releases of xfdesktop. Additionally, more contributers are always welcome so feel free to submit patches or ask for help!

Re: Network Shares on Desktop

Thank you.  I've installed what I believe to be the current dev version of XFCE4.  The version of xfdesktop I'm now using is 4.11.3git-05adaa5 built with GTK+ 2.24.22 and linked with GTK+ 2.24.22, according to the version output.  I'm still not seeing network shares appear on the desktop, but they still work within Thunar (version 1.6.3git-6456abc).  I was sure to reboot my computer in case anything was lingering after the update.  Is it just that the feature is still being implemented, or is there a dependency I may have missed?  So far it seems everything else is working just fine!
