What is subuntu? Do you mean "Xubuntu"?

How did you overcome it? What did you do? Sounds like you missed some of the plugins.

Re: hi

You can re-install the default xubuntu desktop by running:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall xubuntu-desktop

You may need to add the plugins back to the panel via Settings Manager -> Panel, OR you can reset to defaults your Xfce environment by deleting while not logged in to the Xfce environment (hint: Ctrl+Alt+F1) the directories:
- ~/.cache/sessions
- ~/.config/xfce4
(Those directories will get re-created with default settings on your next gui login).

Right-click the panel and select "Panel -> Add New Items". Find the date/time plugin, click on it and then on "Add". This will add it to the panel on the right hand side of the screen. Now right-click the date/time plugin, select "Move" and place it where you want it.
