Notification on unmount (Thunar 1.6.3) is too brief

If I unmount a USB drive by right-clicking on its name in Thunar's side-pane and choosing "Unmount" a notification pops up but very, very, briefly. It is difficult to see what it says.

Users at ubuntuforums.org have seen this happen:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2146111
and
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2214432

By clicking "unmount" when the device is in use, it is possible to get a screenshot of the notification (http://i.imgur.com/Wvl5ATi.png).

"There is data that needs to be written to the device "...." before it can be removed. Please do not remove the media or disconnect the drive" is confusing to a user who wants to remove media.

I feel the contents should be somewhat different so that new users (to Xfce and to Linux) understand what's going on and that the duration for how long the notification is visible should be extended.

Re: Notification on unmount (Thunar 1.6.3) is too brief

Isn't the warning only valid as long as the notification is on screen? I've always assumed the device could be removed as soon as the message had disappeared. On my machine it's never been visible too briefly to see what it's about anyway.

I'm not sure I'd want it displayed any longer than necessary. After all, what use is a warning which is no longer valid?

Well, if there's an onscreen notification, I'm assuming it's for me to read smile

I'm not sure I'm asking for it to be displayed any longer than necessary.

Anyway, it's a call for the developers to make.

Those are both valid points. Perhaps a possible compromise might be to display the busy notification with the regular timeout value followed by a ready to remove notification when the process is done, also with the regular timeout? One might come right after the other, but at least you'd be able to read them both.

vasa1, If you're interested in pursuing this, I think the best way to proceed would be to create a bug report against the thunar-volman package in both Xfce bugzilla and Ubuntu's launchpad. In Ubuntu's bug system, reference the Xfce bug report. This might be the best way to get the developer's attention.
