[Solved] not able to login into xubuntu anymore

Hello,

I am not able to login into xubuntu anymore. After having typed my pw, i return to the login Window, but without a 'wrong password' message. I can login using the consol. This problem arose after i tried to solve à display problem of thé desktop : i typed "login" and "startxfce4".

any idea to help me?

Thank you

Alexandre

Re: [Solved] not able to login into xubuntu anymore

This sometimes happens if the .Xauthority or .ICEauthority files in your home directory are not owned by you but rather by root. I understand it has something to do with not properly running graphical applications as root or inadvertently running a user-based program as root. The fix is to delete these files from the text console before trying to log in graphically again. They will be properly re-created.
