autostart ordering

Currently, what is the best way to control the order in which autostart programs are executed? I'm trying to run xmobar and trayer instead of the XFCE4 panel, and as I understand it, trayer has to run before the programs whose icons it's meant to hold. (I've noticed this question has been answered on this forum a couple times before, but I think they're now obsolete.) Thanks!

[EDIT: After further testing I no longer think changing the autostart order is likely to solve my problem, but if there's a way to do it I still think it would be worth knowing.]
