workspace switcher in Xubuntu 14.04.1, with compiz

can I restore the workspace switcher  to the old look in 12.04?
the same setting in 12.04 and 14.04, the workspace switcher do not show the same size:  in compiz
'Horizontal Virtual Size' 3
'Vertical Virtual Size' 1
and 'Number of Desktops' 1 (no such option in 14.04, but default is 1)
for 12.04, 3 buttons are shown in  workspace switcher. However, in 14.04, only one button and it is split into 3 blocks.

How I setup compiz:
I have installed and enabled the compiz, following: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xf … ow_manager
say, in ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-session.xml

 <value type="string" value="xfwm4"/>

is changed to

<value type="string" value="compiz"/>

compiz works fine.

however, it seems that the worspace switcher does not adapt to the new setting of compiz:
"Desktop Cube & Rotate Cube - provides the spinning cube with each side being a different viewport"
and see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … figuration
"Plugins such as 'Desktop Cube' and 'Desktop Wall' are incompatible with standard workspaces. They must use Compiz's viewports. For the 'Desktop Cube' plugin to work properly, the 'Vertical Virtual Size' and 'Number of Desktops' must be set to 1. The 'Horizontal Virtual Size' should be set to 4 if you want a cube shape. Setting the 'Horizontal Virtual Size' to another value will result in a different shape being created. Set the value to 2 if you want a desktop plane."

"Note: As of Compiz 0.9.11 (revision 3857) the 'Number of Desktops' option has been removed from CCSM."

What do you need the Xfce panel workspace switcher for now that you have options like Expo or Cube tongue

Personally, on my main workstation, i use 9 desktops (3x3) and Expo. Having used this setup for some months now, i can't go back to anything else.

yeah, Expo plugin is awesome.  But I use Rotate Cube more often. At some times, click the button on workspace switcher  is convenient.
Thus, let workspace switcher aware the vireport of compiz, as in Xubuntu 12.04, is needed.
