Notifications not changing position

Trisquel 6.0.1, xfce 4.8.0.1. By default, my notifications appear at the top right. I would like them to appear at the bottom left. So I went to Settings→Notifications and changed several settings. However, only the "Disappear after" setting appears to have any effect. All the settings are saved, but have no effect on notifications' behaviour.

Re: Notifications not changing position

What are the contents of ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-notifyd.xml?

Also, is it possible that you have another notification daemon running like notification-daemon or dunst?

Re: Notifications not changing position

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<channel name="xfce4-notifyd" version="1.0">
  <property name="notify-location" type="uint" value="3"/>
  <property name="expire-timeout" type="int" value="1"/>
  <property name="theme" type="string" value="Zen-bicolor"/>
  <property name="initial-opacity" type="double" value="0.000000"/>
</channel>

There is a process in my list of processes called notify-osd. Is something wrong with that?

Sounds like you might have two notification daemons running (I believe notify-osd is the gnome notification daemon). Possibly. Do you have Xfce's xfce4-notifyd running as well? Is so, try killing notify-osd and see if that helps.

If, however, xfce4-notifyd is not running, kill notify-osd and then start up xfce4-notifyd. Its not generally stored in a directory in your path, so you may have to "locate xfce4-notifyd" to find it.

Re: Notifications not changing position

I found it and started it, but after a few minutes it stopped and notify-osd came back up. How can I prevent this?

Re: Notifications not changing position

Uninstall notify-osd. Be careful though, it might be tied to other programs via dependencies and may want to uninstall them as well.
