xfce4-terminal not showing special characters

Hi all,

I recently moved from urxvt to xfce4-terminal because I can remove completely all decorations from the terminal.

However, I find that it cannot print special charactes such as ñ, ç, or áèí

I have been strugling to find a solution to this, so maybe you can bring some light.

The output of locale shows:

LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE=es_ES@euro
LC_NUMERIC="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=

When using urxvt I was using the following command:

urxvt -tr -fn -artwiz-smoothansi-*-*-*-*-13-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1 -fb -artwiz-smoothansi-*-*-*-*-13-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1 +sb -g 117x33 -rv

Using the same font in xfce4-terminal, I cannot use any of the special characters.

How is this possible? If I use xfontsel to see the font, it clearly prints the special characters, and other applications can render the characters just fine. It looks like xfce4-termina does not like this font.

Also, the font is the only one installed (no copies)

>fc-list | grep smooth
/usr/share/fonts/artwiz-aleczapka-se-1.3/smoothansi.se.pcf: smoothansi.se:style=Regular

Thank you for your help.

Kind regards,

Jordi

Re: xfce4-terminal not showing special characters

maybe your distribution has disabled bitmap font support(on debian derivats you can re-enable them with "dpkg-reconfigure -p low fontconfig-config" )?
