4.12 and 4.10 together?

All,  I'm wondering if there's a way to install the new version beside the old, that way if there's some issue, I can hop back to 4.10 for comparison or just to get back to safe ground.  Also, I grabbed the fat tarball but I see it's just a collection of a dozen other tarballs, is there some way to install everything without having to go through them one by one?

If you add a partition to your drive (possibly after first shrinking the existing one(s) to make room for it), you can install an entirely new distro if you want.

Yeah, I have lots of backups, I just thought there might be a way to run them both.  The bigger issue is how to install these dozen sub-tars.  I presume there's some easy way.

ages, due the release freeze

you could do a little script, the problem by self compiling on debian is that every package is split in -dev -bin -dbg -data etc..., so if you don't want to kill your pkgmanger you'll have to create fake packages for those debs, too - but there is equivs (https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/apt- … lpers.html) which is perfect for this.

Re: 4.12 and 4.10 together?

Ok, six, sounds like I'd better just wait.  Still, there were a few niggling bugs with dual monitors here with 4.10 and I'm very eager to see if they've been fixed.

xfce4 4.12 is being uploaded to experimental[1] if you are feeling brave.

[1] It's not all there yet but give it a day or two.

Thanks, I will.  Good to see you're still kicking Demosthenese, rumour has it that you died in 322 BC ;-)
