problem with custom app.desktop

Hi

i just installed XFCE4 on my Centos6 Workstation but i had a problem that i was trying to create a custom application launcher but didnt work. it works fine if i run the application from terminal but the shortcut never worked. and always get this message

Failed to run "xlsbatch.desktop"
Failed to execute child process
"app" (No such file or directory)

[Desktop Entry]
Name=xlsbatch
Comment=xlsbatch
Exec=xlsbatch
StartupNotify=false
Terminal=false
Type=Application

i tried to use full path, with terminal true but all the same result.
if terminal is enabled then the terminal will start with blackscreen and hang and the only action is to exit the terminal window .

Centos 6.6
XFCE 4.8.0

Re: problem with custom app.desktop

I have only questions:

1) Where do you have the executable? I put mine in /usr/local/bin/ and make sure that that directory is in PATH
2) Where did you put the desktop file? I put mine in ~/.local/share/applications/
3) Where does the "app" file/directory that it is choking on come from?

MX-23 (based on Debian Stable) with our flagship Xfce 4.18.

Re: problem with custom app.desktop

i put them under /usr/share/applications/ because i wanted to be available for all users.

but i tried to put it in /usr/bin but the same
i create it by right click on desktop to create launcher
as i said the application works fine from terminal as paths are exported fine. the same link works fine with gnome and kde.
the exec is in motif as i believe

Re: problem with custom app.desktop

Is the application appearing in Xfce's "whisker menu?" If so, have you tried the lazy man's way of "dragging and dropping" from that menu to your desktop? IIRC, that works (in general) to place a desktop/panel shortcut.
