Re: What's New in Xfce

ANNOUNCE: xfce4-power-manager 1.5.0 released

What is xfce4-power-manager?
============================
This software is a power manager for the Xfce desktop, Xfce power manager manages the power sources on the computer and the devices that can be controlled to reduce their power consumption (such as LCD brightness level, monitor sleep). In addition, xfce4-power-manager provides a set of freedesktop-compliant DBus interfaces to inform other applications about current power level so that they can adjust their power consumption, and it provides the inhibit interface which allows applications to prevent automatic sleep actions via the power manager; as an example, the operating system’s package manager should make use of this interface while it is performing update operations.

Release notes for 1.5.0
=======================
New development release of xfce4-power-manager. This release marks the transition to several new technologies. Consequently we're looking forward to

- Gtk3 >= 3.14

* And finally some bug fixes:

Re: What's New in Xfce

It'd be nice if the battery percentage (I'm not real interested in "time remaining," since my laptop is not always doing the same tasks at the same screen brightness with the same CPU usage/speed, so it's about as accurate (methinks) as the nearest palm reader) was just a straightforward option in the applet's preferences.

It'd also be nice if I could make it display an outline of a battery with the percentage inside, instead of (IMHO) having to waste space by displaying both a percentage and a separate graphical representation of the battery. If the percentage shows 100%, I don't need a picture of a full battery; if the percentage is 50%, I don't need to see a picture of a ½-full one, either. Plus, if I could place the percentage inside the battery, not having anything else but the percentage and the outline would make the percentage much more readable.

MDM

This one's kind of neat. Eric added a commit today that brings animated desktop wallpaper (youtube) to Xfce (via animated gifs).

I should also mention that there has been alot of ongoing xfdashoard development.
