XFCE via RDP unable to change resolution

Using ubuntu 14 as a VM on esxi 5.5, installed xfce this morning as a way to RDP to the machine. Works fine however the resolution is 800x600, when I go into settings/display it says that randr is v1.1 and to change the resolution I need 1.2 or higher. However a check of the randr version reveals it is 1.4.

Checked multiple forums and google, found others with this issue but no answers on how to solve it.
Poked around config settings in xfce but cannot find a way to have it use randr1.4

Not sure if its related but when in xfce and I select terminal, it opens but no cursor.

Obviously I am new to the linux world, if you can teach me to fish I will fix it myself, thanks in advance.

Re: XFCE via RDP unable to change resolution

I am not sure if this will help you but see my post in the General forum. I was having all sorts of problems using rdp and installed a new release candidate of remmina from the site below and it is much less buggy, many more options, and rdp is much better including resolutions options.
