Do you have polkit 0.91 or above installed and working properly?

From the release notes:

Due to gstreamer1.0 having dropped the mixer-interface entirely, and xfce4-mixer and xfce4-volumed relying on this interface with gstreamer0.10, our mixer application and volume daemon cannot be ported to 1.0 and are consequently not maintained anymore.

You can still build, install and run xfce4-volumed if Debian testing still provides gstreamer0.10 and it will provide for you the functionality. Otherwise, if you use pulseaudio, then the xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin (or pnmixer) also provide function key management. If you don't use pulseaudio, then I'm not sure what options exist.

Re: [Solved] authentication needed to run /usr/local/sbin/xfpm-power-backlight-help

I guess its because you build xfce with the wrong paths (/usr/local/sbin/xfpm-power-backlight-helper)

usually (on debian) you should build packages with:

./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --libdir=/usr/lib/$(gcc -print-multiarch)

Thanks , password asking goes away, but display window opened every times backlight change. why ?

Re: [Solved] authentication needed to run /usr/local/sbin/xfpm-power-backlight-help

@alirezaimi do you remember what the keyboard shortcut WAS? I've got this having just upgraded to 16.04 then 16.10. In keyboard > application shortcuts, it's full of shortcuts, as expected. Nothing there intuitively related. Looking life it might be settings > session & startup > application autostart > power manager...
Doesn't seem like I can change it to run as root though. When I hit my laptop brightness hotkeys (Fn+F8/F9) it asks me each time. Brightness changes regardless but needs root for the notification popup...
And seems to need password when it autodims after a set time. Getting tiring!
Does anyone know how to get xfce4-power-manager to call xfpm-power-backlight-helper as root?
