xfce4-battery-plugin does not work

Hello,
i would really like to see the battery percentage without having to hover my mouse over the icon so i installed the xfce4-battery-plugin.
But if i add "battery monitor" to the tray it's still the old plugin without the percentage or the option to show the percentage.

I am on wattOS LXDE R10 with xfce 4.12, i'm pretty new to the linux stuff but i am a fast learner and english is not my first language so sorry in advance for the misunderstandings.

Re: xfce4-battery-plugin does not work

Hello and welcome.

Right-click the plugin and select Properties. On the display tab are display options for displaying things like the percentage. The Power Manager plugin is the more recent battery plugin that can also display information.

Re: xfce4-battery-plugin does not work

You have an older version of the battery plugin. Using your package manager, can you identify which version it is?
What happens when you click on "Show extended information" checkbox?

As for the plugin manager, try running the following command:

xfconf-query -c xfce4-power-manager -p /xfce4-power-manager/show-panel-label --create -t int -s 1

...to see if it displays the percentage. If not, can you identify the version as well using your package manager?

Re: xfce4-battery-plugin does not work

I have xfce4-battery-plugin version 1.0.5-2ubuntu1, additional information simply displays more info if i hover the mouse over it and the xconf doesn't do anything.

Ok, so it was added in a later version then. Looks like your out of luck here.

and the xconf doesn't do anything.

Did you have the power manager plugin added to the panel? What version of xfce4-power-manager do you have installed?

Re: xfce4-battery-plugin does not work

the xfce4-power-manager is 1.4.3-0ubuntu1~1.4.04.1,  i think i updated it today and since then the option to add the plugin to the panel is gone.

Re: xfce4-battery-plugin does not work

Well that's an older version as well so that xfconf command won't work.

You could use the genmon plugin to display something similar by creating a script to extract the battery information and display it in the panel in the format that you want. Here is a script that might work.

If you'd like some help creating a script, post back the results of:

upower -d

...and

ls /proc/acpi/battery

Give this a try (it includes the script and icons).

Re: xfce4-battery-plugin does not work

I think there's something wrong with the plugins in this distro, genmon doesn't show up either.. I think i'll have to stick with having to hover over the battery icon every time.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Can you identify which issue you are experiencing (there are a few that are mentioned in this thread)?

Also, which distro and what version of Xfce are you using?
