LM 18.2 - found new "feature"

This is my desktop.

udBy97Il.png

Open TB starter with "add starter to panel"

Then I get that here

  wrligCul.png

Call it a "feature" not a bug ....

Re: LM 18.2 - found new "feature"

I can't replicate this in either Arch Linux or Xubuntu 17.04.

Does the same happen with a second account on the same computer?

No, just tested on a second account (and I expected that).

Therefore I wrote "feature" ... not bug. Just strange.

Re: LM 18.2 - found new "feature"

Did reset my desktop yesterday as described here by ToZ

https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=11281

Then made the settings (theme, style ....) and there it was again.

So I think, this "feature" is a bug.

But I can life with it .....

PS. Let me ask, is there a simple way to report this to the Xfce team?

Under DEBIAN, we have the bug reporting tool, but Xfce ...?

In the header bar on this forum is a Bugs link, it takes you to https://bugzilla.xfce.org/

The fact that ToZ was unable to replicate this behavior in two other distros causes me to wonder if this might be a Mint issue, rather than an Xfce one? If so, reporting it to the Xfce developers would seem to be somewhat pointless.

It looks like the proper website for reporting Mint bugs is here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint

I'll try to replicate the behaviour here in a LM 18.2 Xfce in vbox guest by applying the settings on my host desktop one-by-one and try to find out, what is triggering that effect.

Funny is, when you report such a "featue" in Mint, the answer is "We only add Mint specific add-ons, it is basically a Ubuntu or better a Debian things, so go there ..."

Had this before.

Re: LM 18.2 - found new "feature"

I suspect that where ever it is reported there won't be any action as no one can reproduce it. If you could identify why it happens in that one system then it might be worth a report but otherwise probably not.

Re: LM 18.2 - found new "feature"

I think, I can reproduce it here in vbox.

Here in vbox it is still OK. Palemoon in lower right corner.

But with setting and arranging the applications and rebooting this feature shows up also in vbox.

I'll try to pinpoint it ....

This is NOT a big thing, but it interests me.

Re: LM 18.2 - found new "feature"

Maybe

- I am getting a bit crazy

or

- there is a spell on my machine here roll

With LM 18.2 guest in vbox I don't get a stable situation, but with my host I can do the following steps repeatedly

START

- reboot

- palemoon starter on desktop says -> palemoon

- add that starter to panel 1

- I get "filemanager" in panel 1 neutral

- remove that starter in panel 1

- again add starter "palemoon" to panel 1

- I get "palemoon" smile

If I go to START, I can reproduce that  ....

Made a short desktop recording of that loop and uploaded it into youtube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVcN3Zsp6qU

I think, I'll have to take this feature with humour ......

Re: LM 18.2 - found new "feature"

That is my machine here, quite old but rock solid

ASUS P5QL + Intel Core Duo E6750 @2.66GHz, Nvidia GEFORCE GT730
8GB DDR2-800, SSD 60 GB, HDD 1TB, 500 GB, 250GB. Linux Mint 18.2 - Xfce

Have a second machine here in the corner (obsolete, only for testing)

Pentium 4 - 3 Ghz, 1GB RAM, Radeon X1300, 160 GB HDD

I put LM 18.2 Xfce on it, set up the desktop ....

.... and I can reproduce that "feature" on machine #2

Re: LM 18.2 - found new "feature"

Does this happen with applications other than palemoon?

I just downloaded the Linux Mint 18.2 64-bit Xfce ISO and can't replicate the problem. However, palemoon is not part of the ISO. How did you install palemoon?

sorry but thats an issue in your distribution because xfce does not have such a feature(adding a launcher to the panel is done by dragging them into the panel, that menu entry is some custom stuff)

Re: LM 18.2 - found new "feature"

panel-desktop-handler.desktop (which is a part of xfce4-panel) provides that functionality. Right-clicking on a desktop icon provides with the option to "Open with Create launcher on the panel".

Re: LM 18.2 - found new "feature"

Sorry for bothering with that "feature" again.

I use that installer shell for palemoon ->  https://linux.palemoon.org/download/installer/

On machine #2 installed a fresh LM 18.2 Xfce 64 bit, did a full update, installed elementary theme, radiotray, kaffeine and midnight commander + palemoon.

Have two virtual desktops and two panels. Looks like this

Re: LM 18.2 - found new "feature"

Posted that "feature" in

https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic. … 0#p1365090

Think, I have got a confirmation there. Seems to be LM specific ...
