Dual Monitor with KVM issue

Hi all,

I have a small issue with a KVM and xfce4-display-settings. After Switching back and forth xfce4-display-settings ask me how I want my monitors set. e.g. next to each other. While this behaviour is fine for adding new monitors, I would prefer that the settings are kept while switching back and forth.
Is there a switch to tell xfce4-disply-settings to just use the setting from $HOME/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/display.xml
Turning off "detect new display while connecting" will leave me with the monitors in mirror mode.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Dual Monitor with KVM issue

Hello and welcome.

A couple of things to check. In Settings Manager > Displays, make sure that the "Configure new displays..." checkbox is unchecked. If that doesn't work, look in Settings Manager > Keyboard > Application shortcuts to see if you have a shortcut that starts up "xfce4-display-settings --minimal" when the "Display" or "Xf86Display" shortcut is registered. Delete that shortcut.

Re: Dual Monitor with KVM issue

Hi ToZ,

I removed the Configure new displays... Option: still it gets in mirror mode
I removed all Keyboard shortcuts for xfce4-display-settings: still no improvement.
When switching back and forth in the SettingsManager->Displays the Mirror option is always selected.

Re: Dual Monitor with KVM issue

Which version of Xfce and xfsettingsd are you using?

xfsettingsd -V

Also can you post back:

xfconf-query -c displays -lv

Re: Dual Monitor with KVM issue

You might want to create a bug report about this issue. There are a number of existing bug reports relating to dual/multiple monitor setups existing already that may be the same as what you are experiencing.

As a workaround, you could create a udev-based hotplug script that will set the monitors up properly when the KVM switches over and the system recognizes a monitor add event.
